How SIMCom Multi-constellation GNSS Module Brings All-weather Real-time Positioning to IoT Applications?

In the era of internet of everything, positioning has become essential for many IoT applications  and business model innovation. GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) has the capability to provide precise real-time location information with global coverage, making it the ideal solution for positioning in the outdoor environment. According to EUSPA, the GNSS market size will grow to 492 billion EUR in 2031, at a CAGR of 9.2%.

Based on the powerful positioning capability of SIM65M, the SIMCom newly released GNSS module, logistics and assets tracking could be more transparent than ever before. SIM65M supports multi-constellation positioning open service, including GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, QZSS as well as SBAS (Satellite-based Augmentation System). Because of more optional satellite signals available, largely reducing the chances of signals getting blocked or inaccurate, more precise data can be generated.

As for tracking devices for children, the elderly and pets, they require positioning information every minute or several minutes, demanding for portability, low power consumption, and coping with the challenges of slight antenna signal because of the blocking of garments.


SIM65M is designed in compact size which is perfect for portable products. Based on the latest generation of 22nm process AIROHA chipset, its power consumption is 28% lower than that of the previous generation. Further more, its AlwayslocateTM power-saving mode prolongs battery life by intelligently controlling power consumption of the receiver. The reception capability has been enhanced by increasing receiver channels up to 47, which can capture and track any mix of multiple satellite signals.

For the innovative business models like sharing bike services, the core is to manage the sharing equipment efficiently to maximize their commercial values, which requires fast and accurate real time positioning .



The static positioning precision of SIM65M reaches 2 meters, which is 20% higher than that of the previous generation. In order to further improve the performances, SIM65M is also integrated with LNA(Low Noise Amplifier) to amplify the signal so as to improve the sensitivity of the receiver.


With the help of EPOTM (a satellite orbit prediction technology), it takes 15 seconds for SIM65M to start while the hot starts only take 1 second, enabling managers and users to quickly obtain real-time location of each equipment. In addition, the capability of receiving satellite signals is enhanced with jamming removing technology and the embedded EASYTM system, speeding up its warm starts by 90%.
